Let the good times roll

If you’ve been on an airplane in the last five years, you know all about the security routine. So there we were with our shoes off and our belongings spread out in a row of plastic bins (laptop, case, ella’s backpack and sippy, kate’s bottle, blankets, etc.) when Ella hits me with “I have to go to the potty right now.” I decided not to let it stress me out. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? And like a champ she made it to the bathroom. Obstacle one, cleared.

Then about an hour later we were standing in the “my flight was just cancelled, what should I do” line. We were pretty much at the end and a nice lady let us go in front of her. I laughed because one space doesn’t get you much closer, but in her words, “Just go ahead. It will make me feel better.”

So no joke, we finally get to the desk and Ella yells out, “Mom, I have to go poops. Hurry.” I looked at the attendant and told him he had about three seconds. He got us those new boarding passes in no time flat and kind of called after us as we were walking away, “Call American Airlines if you have any questions . . .” Obstacle two, cleared.

Anyway, after spending 3 ½ hours in the airport yesterday waiting out the tornados, we’re back at the Shumways without any luggage enjoying their hospitality—and Karin’s toothbrush. I figured it wouldn’t gross her out if she didn’t know.

It was a crazy day but my girls are good company and in the end we had a lot of fun.

On another note, if you have a minute check out this article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040401721.html?referrer=emailarticle

It’s a brilliant piece of writing and pretty much sums up why Kyle chose optometry and I’m a writer. It’s a blessing to have careers where you can make time for a surprise moment of sunshine. So, here’s to the unexpected adventure and finding happiness in an unlikely situation.

54 holes

I played 54 holes on Friday, 27 in the morning, took a little break and went back for another 27. I had a personal best round of 76 in the morning and was on track to equal it in the afternoon but had a triple bogey on #9 and ended up with a 79.

Brittney and the girls have been in Texas for the past couple of days, so I have been a little lonely but my clubs have done a good job of keeping me company.

cheese, please

custom m and p grinds. Kyle may have found a new profession. it's always good to backup your backup.

Kyle's been a busy man grinding his wedges . . . more on that later . . . , so i figured i'd post some pix for the parents.

latest ella story: i wasn't paying attention for one minute and when i returned i found kate covered in shredded cheese. "Did you try to feed Kate some cheese, Ella?" "Yeah, she liked it." I'm sure she did. It was the mexi-blend.

Also, another note to parents: when you're three year old puts her hand up and says "Do NOT go in the kitchen," that means, you better find out what the heck is going on in the kitchen. Especially when she follows it up with, "It was an accident. Don't worry, i'll clean it up." Ah, good times at the Gillespie home. Ella had spilled formula all over (powdered gold if you haven't bought any in a while) and quiet as a mouse tried to clean it up. The mop, broom, dustpan, and a few kitchen utensils all showed a valiant effort to hide the mess. It was worth the $20 just to see the expression on her face.

Girls and I are going to Dallas Friday for the weekend. Going to watch a few episodes of the office, eat some killer mexican food, and hang with baby sienna, karin, and matt. Kyle's already got his weekend planned: drop us off at the airport at 6:00 a.m., head for the best golf course in the state, and play until the sun goes down.

House goes up for sale in two weeks. Any buyers???

Fell off the blogging world

Unfortunately the blog has been put on the back burner lately. I have been busy. The last quarter of class and they have us doing homework, it feels like high school again. Only 5 weeks left and class time is history for the rest of my life!!!

I have found time to play golf about every week. I am playing the best I have ever played, my knee feels great, my clubs are awesome and my swing is getting consistent. Scores for the past 4 rounds: 77, 78, 77, 82.

I have also been working on my business plan for opening a practice when I graduate next year. Talk about time consuming, I could work on this every day all day for weeks and still not have all the info I need. I am trying to be smart and start a year in advance. Financial statements, cash flow, projections, expences, liabilities, inventory, contracts, taxes, the list goes on........, I thought I signed up to be a doctor not a business man, I guess I will be both.

Ella is doing great, she misses Grandma Anne and Janie, and was sad to see them go home. She has a lot of fun with her friends though.

Kate is a really good baby and has started to sleep a little bit at night, although Brit claims to still get up with her all night long, every 2-3 hours she says.
